Verlata Consulting has won third place in the NetDocuments Hackathon at Inspire 2021

NetDocuments recently announced the finalists and winners of its inaugural Hackathon. The Hackathon focused on combining the power of NetDocuments and Microsoft Power Automate to create new legal solutions on the NetDocuments platform.

Verlata Consulting are thrilled to win third place with a precedent focused solution called PrecFlow.

The initial NetDocuments Hackathon registration included 23 teams judged by a panel including NetDocuments product experts and Alan Gibson, Director of Legal & Compliance Innovation at Microsoft.

Submitted solutions demonstrated how NetDocuments and the Microsoft Power Automate no-code workflow ecosystem can work seamlessly, together, to solve a wide variety of real-world problems.

Working closely with Susan Bryant of Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers, the Verlata team created a solution that streamlines precedent and knowledge document management.

Susan Bryant, lawyer and precedent manager with many years of experience in the industry, said ‘Precedent libraries are integral to the modern law firm but keeping them up to date can be a challenge for any firm. Getting lawyers to submit their personal precedents and opening those silos is also an issue. We wanted to build a solution that would free up time for both lawyers and precedents teams, while still capturing essential precedent information and keeping precedents up to date.

Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers has a long-term commitment to innovation in legal services and was one of the first Australian firms to move to the NetDocuments cloud-based document management solution.

Using a combination of NetDocuments, Microsoft Power Automate and Microsoft Forms the Verlata team created a solution that allows precedent experts to concentrate on the documents themselves, rather than the administration of a precedent system.

The solution facilitates:

·         Easy submission and ingestion of precedents.

·         Easy update of existing precedents (as requested by lawyers/admin)

·         Management of precedent reviews (as requested by precedents team)

·         Providing audit tracking on reviews and updates.

Verlata director and Power Automate expert, Steve Pickering said “At Verlata we always strive to develop innovative solutions to clients’ business challenges and we could see how Power Automate and the NetDocuments Power Automate connectors could really benefit both lawyers and knowledge teams by streamlining precedent management.”

The NetDocuments hackathon contributed $15K to charity in the U.S. and Australia on behalf of the top 5 winning teams. Verlata chose a local charity – Baby Give Back – to receive the generous donation from NetDocuments in Verlata’s name.
